Help restore and maintain the historic interior of Slangenburg Castle in top condition.

Slangenburg Castle in Doetinchem has a long history dating back to the Middle Ages. In the centuries that followed, it was expanded and renovated by various residents to become the castle we know today. Since 2016, it has been owned by Stichting Monumentenbezit. The castle has a unique interior with valuable objects and furniture. Good maintenance, also known as housekeeping, prevents deterioration and ensures that any damage is identified in a timely manner. As a volunteer, you will contribute to the careful maintenance and protection of the historic interior and collection. You will be trained for this during various practical days that we organize for you and that are conducted by Arrianne Zeijlemaker of Collection Care Solutions.

What will you do?

  • As part of a dedicated and enthusiastic team, you will ensure that the interior of Slangenburg Castle is well maintained.
  • You periodically dust historical rooms, including hard-to-reach places such as on top of cabinets and behind furniture.
  • You clean and maintain fragile objects and surfaces.
  • You identify and report any initial damage.
  • You keep track of insect monitoring by checking traps and reporting your findings.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who:

  • Having a love for historic interiors and an eye for detail
  • Be in good physical condition: you will regularly work (in pairs) on stairs or ladders and perform light physical tasks, such as vacuuming and moving objects.
  • Be careful and willing to learn: you will receive professional training to work safely and responsibly in a vulnerable interior.

What do we offer?

  • A unique opportunity to contribute to the preservation of a valuable historic castle
  • Training and guidance on various topics
  • Join an enthusiastic team of volunteers working together to preserve Slangenburg Castle.
  • Coffee, cake, and lots of fun. We organize various activities for our volunteers, such as lectures and, of course, the annual Christmas party.
  • Appreciation and satisfaction by truly making a difference in preserving cultural heritage.
